Life with and after the British Transport Police for RPD Max

Max was a rescue dog, located in Derbyshire , purchased by the British Transport Police.

He flew through his 8 week foundation training, licensed by Greater Manchester Police.

Max and I developed into an effective explosive search dog team.

Regularly deployed at central London stations. Max was a friendly, enthusiast, loyal dog that always welcomed attention from the travelling public.

We would diligently undertake, all VIP and Royal train movements ensuring  all parties entered and departed the railway network safely and securely, without incident.

We were fortunate enough to, train alongside the military, be deployed on mutual aid to GMP, Sussex, Kent, Cambridgeshire, Durham and the PSNI police services.

Max and I, as one would expect, forged a very close bond over the years and throughout our time on the dog section.

When Max was retired in 2013, needless to say, I was keen to have him retired to me, keeping him as a pet.
On that day I made a promise to Max that I would look after him whatever happens, until such time.

I took Max on a family road trip holiday, by car, through France to Northern Spain, where we swam in the warm Mediterranean Sea. This set a standard, we’d most always take him on holiday with us wherever possible and he was partial to a digestive biscuit.

Throughout his retirement years Max would sleep in the kitchen, or lounge, whichever he’d choose. He was walked twice a day, had his yearly veterinary checks.
Max was a much loved companion and family champion. I can, hand on heart say, I kept that promise to the best of my ability…that time came, 14:22 09/06/2023.

May he rest in peace.

Passing Of Retired Police Dog Dibble

Our biggest charity mascot RPD Dibble crossed over the rainbow bridge this week. He passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones.

RPD Dibble's handler Retired PS Steve Palmer puts it perfectly.

"Officer Dibble or Dibs as we affectionately called you, without a doubt you were a very special character.

British Transport Police first Mally, a rogue as a person scanning dog whose indication was to nip or even a full bite of the stooge, but a fantastic proactive search dog.

The nemesis of many a dog handlers suitability course candidate and especially their recall exercise.

You were an awesome specieman of your breed. A fantastic dog and best mate not only to me but all our family. You managed 13yrs 10months and 18 days and we were privileged to have had you for 12 of those years.

A massive part of our life and you leave us with a huge void but you also leave us with all the fantastic and amazing memories we made with you and all the great times we spent with together.

Dibble you wasn't just a dog. You was a Police Dog, my working partner, my best mate, a massive part of our family and loved by us all.

No more stressing buddy when i am shouting at the tv watching Rugby or Football.

We are going to miss that waggy tail when we come home mate and you nudging our hands for a fuss

We love you Dibble

REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND AND SLEEP WELL."

Rest Easy RPD Dibble

Passing Of Retired Police Dog Mia

We are very sad to share with you the passing of 12 year old RPD Mia who crossed over the rainbow bridge on Wednesday.

Our thoughts are with Karen, Wayne and their family who looked after Mia when she retired from British Transport Police.

Mia worked as a general purpose dog with PC Colin Fowler. When Mia retired she became best buddies with Luna and the two were inseparable.

12 year old Chester served with British Transport Police and PC Hicksford from 2014-2017 as an Explosive search dog. Chester was retired to close friends of PC Hicksford and settled very quickly into his new family life.
